Battlefield Heroes : new, fun and... free

If you have liked Battlefield (1942, Vietnam, Battlefield 2...) and spent hours playing one of this FPS (First Personal Shooter), you will definitely look forward this summer 2008 to download for your PC this new game proudly developed by DICE and brought by Electronic Arts (EA) : Battlefield Heroes!

New graphics, obviously as you can see it on the picture ("fun cartoon-style shooter", like Team Fortress by Valve), but a new business model as well. Indeed, EA will release it as a free game (download only) and earn money on advertising and micro-transactions.

There's not many details yet, but you can read the Press Release here, or simply visit the official website : www.battlefield-heroes.com.

PS : Meanwhile, you still can (re) discover Company of Heroes (and its stand-alone extension : CoH Opposing Fronts), a spectacular and clever RTS game (Real Time Strategy) taking place in Europe during WWII.

Work hard, play harder!

Assassins' Creed is a soon-coming BlockBuster

A SplinterCell-like, if you want a quick simple comparison, but a free, open, non-linear development in a medieval context. It should be available in November, I am so looking forward to lay my hand on it... ;) Edit: Latest news are the game is still planned to be issued in November for the XBox 360 players, but the PC version of Asssasin's Creed would appear sometimes in 2008... Geeez...

Beautiful video, gread soundtrack! Isn't it Placebo? I don't have any confirmation, do you know who sings?
Edit: Okay, that is actually a cool band called UNKLE, with Richard Ashcroft's voice and the song is Lonely Soul... :) the original version is 12-minute-long.

BURN NOTICE - Are you ready to get burned...?

"Are you ready to get burned?" The question is teasing, you can't help being attracted, you want to know more! Here is the pitch: "When spies get fired, they don't get a letter from human resources...

While on assignment, agent Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) gets a 'Burn Notice' and becomes untouchable. Having no idea what or who triggered his demise, Michael returns to his hometown, Miami, determined to find out the reason for his sudden termination. Unable to utilize his normal contacts and needing to stay under the spy network radar, he puts his Special Ops training to use to help those who the police can't or won't, in order to fund his ongoing personal investigation..."

The concept is good, the idea is pleasant! Unfortunately, the first impressions are not. The serie is way "too nice", kind of cheap actually, the quality of the image is surprisingly average, and the actors, even if they are friendly, are not credible characters yet... It reminds me of Acapulco H.E.A.T. with the bikini babes clichés, it brings back some good old memories though, with MacGyver's style-handmade-spy tools. Nevertheless, globally, after three episodes, the results are as more disappointing that I had high expectations.

One main mission (well, a good deed) per episode, some extra action and of course the intrigue, the Ariadne's clew, which is supposed to keep the audience waiting for the next Thursday... well, I am not the target this time. I keep on thinking about Grand Theft Auto - Vice City (mythic 2002 video game!) but without the punchy mordant tone, the cinema references nor the interactivity! Dommage...

Let's hope they improve it.
